Today I laughed really loud as I read one of my friend’s FB posts. She and her husband are expecting their first child in two months. They are both extremely excited. It has been quite interesting watching their journey and observing the rapid changes her body has undergone as she has provided housing for a new person. Though they are excited, it has not been without adjustment. Last week she sought remedies for the heartburn that often comes with pregnancy. A few days ago she shared how the baby was poised on her diaphragm and kidneys! Then today, she posted about the exhaustion she feels as she approaches the home stretch. What began as an announcement and promise for a new member of their family has become reality. She is called to birth the seed, so she has to make sacrifices. All to fulfill her dream of becoming a mom.

Reading her posts has caused me to reflect on my own life. I began to consider what I am trying to bring life to. Starting my own business was just an idea and concept a few months ago, but now it is slowly becoming a reality. With it, comes the responsibility of sacrifice and compromise. I am slowly learning to prioritize the things it needs above my very own desires. As a hobby, it didn’t consume my time, but as I’ve devoted myself to becoming an entrepreneur, building my business has taken center stage. Still, I take it all in stride because I understand that the end result will be worth the process. Much like my dear friend, I am birthing something! As I type, I sense strongly that some of you who read this will be called to count the cost of birthing your own dreams. Please do not abort the process in an attempt to be comfortable. The world needs your gift and your voice. Make the sacrifices. Forgo instant gratification for the greater goal. In the end, you will bring life to something that will change the world forever. And just like a mother who holds her newborn baby, you will realize it was all worth it.
